The D-85 has beveled alloy frets that will enable you to easily slide your fingers from one fret to another without having your fingers get stuck.  Properly beveled frets will make for smoother chord transitions.

11. Back and Sides Select Ash

Choice Ash is used for the back and sides of the D-85 acoustic guitar.  This makes for a better sound, and a more attractive look.

"Other" inexpensive guitars use nato wood, a very soft imitation mahogany wood.  You do not want soft wood back and sides for two reasons: 1) The guitar will not produce a true full sound.  2) The guitar will not last as long, due to the wood weakening over time.
